Rodney Smith - Police Officer Fatality - Kentucky

Rodney Smith
Police Officer Rodney Smith, age 45, died in the line of duty on March 2, 2018, in Fulton County, Kentucky. 

Officer Smith was a member of the Hickman Police Department. He had previously worked for the Mayfield Police Department. 

Hickman is the county seat of Fulton County, Kentucky and has a population of under 2,500.

Just after 9:00 p.m., Rodney was checking a flooded area due to the overflowing Bayou de Chien. His patrol car was washed deeper into the flooded area. 

Tragically, Rodney drowned.

The members of the Hickman Police Department are in mourning over the death of their brother. Rodney was uptempo and intelligent. He was a well-liked and well-respected member of the team. He was a family man who was very proud of his children. He will be forever remembered.

Rodney's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was greatly loved. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Rodney is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his mother, his wife and children. 

Thank you for your service to the community, Rodney. 


Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray that Rodney is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
