Michael Middlebrook - Police Officer Fatality - Louisiana

Michael Middlebrook
Corporal Michael Middlebrook died in the line of duty on October 1, 2017, in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Corporal Middlebrook was a member of the Lafayette Police Department. He had 9 years of service.

Lafayette is a city in southern Louisiana about 135 miles west of New Orleans. It has a population of just under 130,000.

At about 10:00 p.m., Michael was responding to reports of a cashier being shot at a convenience store in the city. As Michael arrived on the scene, a male subject started shooting. A shoot-out ensued and Michael was mortally wounded.

Michael was rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.

The shooter fled the scene but was later arrested. Ian Howard, age 28, is facing numerous charges including first degree murder.

A funding site has been set up to help the family with expenses.

Michael, Patron Saint of
the Police, pray for
