Weston Lee - U.S. Army Fatality - Iraq

1st Lt. Weston C. Lee, age 25, of Bluffton, Georgia, died in the line of duty on April 29, 2017, in Mosul, Iraq.

1st Lt. Lee was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was a platoon leader. 

Tragically, Weston died of injuries sustained from an improvised explosive device. 

The circumstances of Weston's death are under military investigation. 

He was called Wes by many of his family and friends. 

Weston was serving in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, which is the U.S. Military operation against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. 

Weston attended Southwest Georgia Academy in Damascus, Georgia. Friends there describe him as accomplishing his dream of becoming a Ranger, and as a true warrior. 

He joined the Army in March of 2015 and deployed to Iraq in December of 2016. This

Weston's awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Ranger Tab, the Parachutist Badge, and the Army Service Ribbon. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Weston's military comrades are in mourning over the death of their young brother.  Army officials describe him as "an extraordinary young man and officer. He was exactly the type of leader that our paratroopers deserve." He will be forever remembered.

Weston's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was loving and was loved in return. He will be forever mourned.

Weston is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.
