Mason Moore - Sheriff's Deputy Fatality - Montana

Deputy Sheriff Mason Moore, age 42, died in the line of duty on May 16, 2017, on a highway near Three Forks, Montana.

Deputy Moore was a member of the Broadwater County Sheriff's Office, based in Townsend, Montana. He had three years of service with the Sheriff's Office.

About 3:00 a.m., Mason was conducting a traffic stop on Highway 287. He had radioed in that he was stopping a vehicle. After that, contact with him from the Sheriff's office was lost.

Officers from other jurisdictions located Mason's vehicle and tragically, found him deceased.

The shooters had fled the scene but were apprehended after a lengthy chase across several jurisdictions. Marshall Barrus, in his late 30's, was shot by the authorities and taken to a medical facility. His father, Lloyd Barrus, age 61, was the second male subject taken into custody. 

Both men are facing charges relating to the murder of Mason Moore. The son, Marshall, has a prior criminal history including drunk driving convictions, possession of meth, and burglary. 

Mason was originally from South Carolina. In South Carolina, he had served with the
Michael, Patron Saint of the Police, pray for
Mason and for those who have lost him. 
Clarendon County Sheriff's Office as a deputy and as an investigator. He had also worked with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department and at the University of South Carolina as law enforcement officer. 


Friends describe Mason as a man who always tried to do the best that he could, wherever he was working. 

Law enforcement comrades describe Mason as a dedicated man of integrity who was well-liked and well-respected by his peers. He was one of the good guys. He will be forever remembered. 

Mason's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He loved his family and he was greatly loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Mason is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and three children.

God save us from the Lost Ones who bring death and destruction wherever they go. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Pray that Mason is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
