Jason Harris - Police Officer Fatality - South Carolina

Master Police Officer Jason Harris, age 39, died in the line of duty on April 13, 2017, at a hospital in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Officer Harris was a member of the Spartanburg Police Department. He had 12 years of service.

Spartanburg is a city of under 38,000 and is located approximately 200 miles northwest of Charleston.

Just before 10:00 p.m. on April 11, 2017, Jason was on motorcycle patrol. He was responding to a call for assistance at the scene of a burglary. He was travelling on a city street when a car turned left into a private driveway. Jason's motorcycle struck the car and he was thrown off.

Jason was rushed to a local hospital and underwent several surgeries. Tragically, he passed away due to his injuries on April 13, 2017.

A funding site has been set up to help the family with expenses.

Jason was a dedicated professional who loved his work. He had served on the Department’s SWAT team, Motorcycle Unit, K-9 Tracking Team, Downtown Bicycle Unit, Housing Complex Team and was a Gang Investigator. In 2011, Jason had been shot in the hip while trying to serve a warrant. 

Friends stated that Jason had a positive attitude and a bright smile. He will be forever missed.

The members of the Spartanburg Police Department are in mourning over the death of their brother. Jason was a loyal and valued member of their team. He will be forever remembered.

Jason's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Jason is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and three children.
