Jackie Deveau - a victim of Hit-And-Run in Nova Scotia, Canada

Jackie Deveau
Jackie Deveau, age 54, of Cheticamp, Nova Scotia, died on March 11, 2017, at a hospital in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada.

He was struck down by a hit-and-run driver at about 9:30 p.m. on a highway in Sydney.

It is unknown why Jackie was walking on the highway at that time.

Anyone with information is urged to call 902-794-5800 or 1-800-803-RCMP (7267) or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Jackie was a Canadian Air Force veteran. He served as a peacekeeper in Kuwait in the early 1990's. He also helped with the cleanup of Swissair Flight 111, which crashed into the Atlantic Ocean southwest of Halifax International Airport in 1998.

Jackie was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder three years after participating in the Swissair cleanup. He finished his career as a master warrant officer and retired in September of 2016.

Jackie was a staunch supporter of "Soldier On", which is a support program for P.T.S.D. survivors. His family requests that all levels of government step up and provide increased support for military men and women who suffer from military-related trauma.

The circumstances of this fatal accident are unknown at this time. Most hit-and-run deaths are caused by drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs; or by drivers who

are texting or talking on their cell-phones; or by drivers who are speeding.

We offer this advice to all drivers: If you find that you are drunk, wasted or doped up on street drugs or prescription drugs or if you are falling asleep on your feet, do NOT drive. Call a family member or a friend for a ride; or take a taxi or a bus; or stay where you are until you sober up; or crawl home on your hands and knees. It will be better for you and for the world if you do.

Regret can last a lifetime.

Jackie's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He loved his family and his friends. He loved life. He was a giving and selfless man with a kind spirit. He tried to help others. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Jackie is survived by many loving friends and family members including his wife, Lorna.

Pray for justice for Jackie.

Thank you for your service to Canada, Jackie.

God save us from the hit-and-run drivers. They strike us down on the road and then run away like wolves. Amen.

Pray that Jackie is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
