Keith Boyer - Police Officer Fatality - Whittier, California

Police Officer Keith Boyer, age 53, died in the line of duty on February 20, 2017, at a hospital in Whittier, California.

Officer Boyer was a member of the Whittier Police Department. He had 28 years of service.

At about 8:00 a.m., Keith and another officer were investigating a motor vehicle accident near a city intersection. The vehicle that caused the crash was being driven by a gang member who had committed a murder just hours earlier. He was also on parole.

Keith was attempting to pat down the male driver when the man pulled a handgun from his waistband and started shooting. Keith was shot and a second officer was wounded. The officers returned fire and wounded the suspect who is in custody.

Keith was rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.

Keith's was also a musician.  He was planning on retiring in the near future.

their brother. Keith was a dedicated officer and had a positive attitude. He will be forever remembered.

Keith's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Keith is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his parents and his three adult children.
