Eric Mumaw - Police Officer Fatality - Nashville, Tennessee

Police Officer Eric Mumaw, age 44, died in the line of duty on February 2, 2017, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Eric Mumaw

Officer Mumaw was a member of the Metro Nashville Police Department. He had 18 years of service.

After 4:00 a.m., Eric and another officer responded to a call that a 40 year old woman in a vehicle was contemplating suicide. The officers located the woman in the vehicle and as they were trying to talk to her the vehicle rolled down a boat ramp and into the Cumberland River.

Both officers attempted to pull the woman out of the car. Eric was pulled into the river's current.

Attempts to reach Eric failed because the water was just too cold.

Michael, Patron Saint of the
Police, pray for Eric and
for those who have lost him.
Tragically, Eric died from drowning.

The suicidal woman escaped from the vehicle and got to shore where she was later found to be intoxicated. She may be charged in connection with Eric's death.

Eric had received the Police Department's Exemplary Service Award in 2003 and a lifesaving award in 2011.

The Metro Nashville Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. Eric was always smiling and joking. He was well-liked and well-respected by his comrades. He was a good friend and a good officer who was dedicated to his job and to his community. He will be forever remembered.
