Patrick Carothers - U.S. Marshal Fatality - Georgia

Deputy Commander Patrick Carothers, age 53, died in the line of duty on November 18, 2016, at a hospital in Georgia.

Deputy Commander Carothers was a member of the United States Marshals Service. He had 26 years of service.

Patrick served with the The Southeast Regional Fugitive Force (SERFTF) which operates out of offices in Atlanta, and Macon, Georgia.

Patrick and other members of SERFTF were attempting to serve a warrant on Dontrell Carter who was situated in Long County, Georgia. The subject was wanted in South Carolina for the attempted murder of police officers, domestic assault and weapons violations. He was located at a trailer park outside of Ludowici. Ludowici is a town of under 1,500 in Long County, Georgia.

As the arrest team approached the residence, the subject opened fire, hitting Patrick several times.

Other members of the arrest team returned fire and killed the subject.

Patrick was rushed to a nearby hospital where, tragically, he died of his injuries.

Patrick was born at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was a 1982 graduate of Luray High School in Luray, Virginia. He graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology from Florida State University. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and attended the Buford Church of God in Buford, Georgia. He and his family lived in Flowery Branch, Georgia. 

All members of the U.S. Marshals Service are in mourning over the death of their brother. He was a hero. He will be forever remembered.

Patrick's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Patrick is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his father, James; his wife, Terry, and five children.

Thank you for your service, Patrick.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

God save us from the psychopaths. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Pray that Patrick is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
