Eric Ellsworth - Fatality - Utah Highway Patrol

Eric Ellsworth
Trooper Eric Ellsworth, age 32, died in the line of duty on November 22, 2016, at a hospital in Murray, Utah.

Trooper Ellsworth was a member of the Utah Highway Patrol. He had 7 years of service.

On November 18, 2016, Eric had responded to a call reporting low hanging power lines on a highway in Box Elder County. He arrived at the site and was directing traffic while waiting for power company employees who were dispatched to repair the lines.

Eric noticed a semi trailer approaching and got out of his patrol car to warn the driver of the obstruction when he was struck down by a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

Eric was flown to a hospital in Murray, Utah, where, tragically, he died of his injuries four days later.

An account has been set up to help Eric’s family with expenses at "America First Credit Union" called the “Eric Ellsworth Charitable Account.”

Eric's first two years with the Highway Patrol were spent in Green River. His next five years were with Section 1 serving Box Elder County and Northern Utah. Eric's father,
Michael, Patron Saint of the
Police, pray for Eric and
for those who have lost him.
Ron, had also served with the Highway Patrol.

The members of the Utah Highway Patrol are in mourning over the death of their brother.  Officials stated that Eric will be remembered for his great professionalism, his courage and the very caring way he provided his service to help those in need. He will also be remembered for his smile and the genuine friendship he offered to those he served with.

Eric's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. They forgive the driver who struck Eric down and have asked all drivers, everywhere, to slow down and move over when they see law enforcement personnel on the side of a roadway. Eric was loving and was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Eric is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his mother and father; his wife and his 3 young sons.

Thank you for your service to Utah, Eric.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray that Eric is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
