Darrin Reed - Police Officer Fatality - Arizona

Darrin Reed
Police Officer Darrin Reed, age 50, died in the line of duty on November 8, 2016, in Show Low, Arizona.

Officer Reed was a member of the Show Low Police Department. He had 10 years of service. He had previously served with the Navajo County Sheriff's Office.

Show Low is a city of under 11,000, located about 140 miles southeast of Flagstaff.

In the early afternoon, Darrin and other officers were searching in the vicinity of a local motel for a man described as suspicious. The man had fled on foot but was pursued by the officers. During the pursuit, the suspect shot at the officers with a handgun, wounding Darrin.

Darrin was rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, he died of his injuries.

The suspect, Daniel Erickson, age 36, had fled again, taken a 15 year old girl as hostage and barricaded himself in a cabin in a rural area. The suspect was later shot and killed by law enforcement officers. He had a lengthy criminal history and had been incarcerated twice.

Michael, Patron Saint of the
Police, pray for Darrin and
for those who have lost him.
The hostage was not injured.

A funding site has been set up to help the family with expenses.

Friends describe Darrin as kind in spirit. He loved his job and was going to retire in February of 2017. He had a sense of humor and liked to joke around with his comrades. He treated others with respect and understanding.

The Show Low Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. He will be forever remembered.

Darrin's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Darrin is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife, daughter and son.

Thank you for your service to the community, Darrin.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

God save us from the Lost Ones who bring death to strangers. Amen.

Pray that Darrin is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
