Spencer Chauvin

District Fire Chief Spencer Chauvin, age 36, died in the line of duty on August 28, 2016, at a hospital near LaPlace, Louisiana.

District Fire Chief Chauvin was a member of the St. John the Baptist Parish - Office of Fire Services, Louisiana. He had 21 years of service in firefighting.

Before 7:00 a.m., Spencer and other firefighters was at the scene of a single vehicle accident on Interstate 101. Their firetruck was blocking part of a lane to keep vehicles away from the accident site.

After 7:00 a.m., a private rental bus crashed into the parked firetruck, causing three firefighters to fall over a guard rail. Spencer was mortally wounded as a result of the crash. The two other firefighters were also injured.

Jermaine Starr, age 21, from Moss Point, Mississippi, was a passenger in a vehicle which was also struck by the bus. Tragically, Jermaine Starr, was killed.

Forty-one passengers on the bus were injured.

Spencer was a rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, he was declared deceased.

It has been reported that the bus driver, Denis Rodriguez, age 37, does not have a valid driver's license and is in the country illegally. He is facing numerous charges.

Members of St. John the Baptist Fire Services are in mourning over the death of their brother. Spencer was a brave and dedicated firefighter. He was a take charge kind of man. He will be forever remembered.

Spencer's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Spencer is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and two small children.
