| Kenny Moats |
Officer Moats was a member of the Maryville Police Department. He worked with the Department's drug task force. He had 9 years of service with the Department.
Maryville is 16 miles south of Knoxville.
Earlier in the day officers had responded to a domestic violence call in a rural area of Maryville. Brian Stalans, age 44, was arguing with his father. At about 4:00 p.m. officers again responded to the same house. Brian Stalans was now armed.
Kenny was one of several officers in the area who responded to assist at the location.
The police assisted one person from the home. As the officers were waiting for backup, a male opened fire striking Kenny in the neck.
Kenny was rushed to a hospital in Knoxville where, tragically, he died of his injuries.
The suspect, Brian Stalans, was taken into custody.

Kenny graduated from Heritage High School in Maryville in 2002. He graduated from Walters State Police Academy in December of 2005. Kenny was president of a local Fraternal Order of Police.

The Maryville Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. He was a stellar officer who loved his job. He was a good friend to others. He put others first. He tried to do the right thing. He will be forever remembered.
Kenny's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was a loving husband and father. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.
Kenny is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including but not limited to his wife and his three children.
