Michael Katherman - Police Officer Fatality - San Jose, California

Police Officer Michael Katherman, age 34, died in the line of duty on June 14, 2016, at a hospital in San Jose, California.

Officer Katherman was a member of the San Jose Police Department. He had 11 years of service.

Just before 4:30 p.m., Michael was on patrol and was driving his motorcycle on a city street when a mini-van unexpectedly turned in front of him and collided with his motorcycle.

Bystanders attempted to help and performed CPR on Michael until an ambulance rushed him to a local hospital.

Tragically, Michael succumbed to his injuries. 

It is unknown, as of this date, if the accident was caused by impaired driving.

The San Jose Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. He loved being a police officer and loved motorcycle duty. He loved his family. He will be forever remembered.

Michael's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He was greatly loved. He will be forever mourned.

Michael is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and two young sons.

Thank you for your service to the community, Michael.
