David Michel Jr. - Deputy Sheriff Fatality - Jefferson Parish, Louisiana

David Michel Jr.
Deputy Sheriff David Michel Jr., age 50, died in the line of duty on June 22, 2016, at a hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Deputy Sheriff Michel was a member of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. He worked in the Street Crimes Unit. He had nine years of service.

During the afternoon, David was making a routine pedestrian stop on a street in Harvey (part of the New Orleans Statistical Area).

A confrontation broke out when David tried to search the male subject for weapons. The subject managed to pull out a handgun from his waistband and shot David several times.

David was rushed to a hospital in New Orleans, where, tragically, he died of his injuries.

The shooter, Jerman Neveaux, age 19, ran from the scene but was arrested soon after. He was on probation for possession of stolen property. He is now facing first degree murder charges.

Michael, Patron Saint of the
Police, pray for David and
for those who have lost him.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is in mourning over the death of their brother. David had a sense of humor and liked to tell jokes. He was uptempo and was well-liked by his comrades. He will be forever remembered.

David's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He loved being a Deputy Sheriff. He was a loving husband. He did his best. He was greatly loved. He will be forever mourned.

David is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his father; and his wife, Angie.

Thank you for your service to the community, David.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray for justice for David.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

God save us from the Lost Ones who bring death to strangers. Amen.

Pray that David is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
