Ryan Bourque - Police Officer - Jamestown, Rhode Island

Police Officer Ryan Bourque, age 24, died on May 23, 2016, at a hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.

Ryan Bourque
Officer Bourque was a member of the Jamestown Police Department. He had one year of service.

Jamestown has a population of about 5,500 and is located on Conanicut Island, in Narragansett Bay.

Ryan had finished his shift and was driving home just after midnight when his vehicle was struck head-on by a vehicle being driven the wrong way on a highway in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.

Ryan was rushed to a hospital in Providence, where tragically he succumbed to his injuries.

Dejae Pizarro, age 23, of Bedford, Massachusetts, was driving the wrong way. He had pulled a U-turn in the middle of the highway and had driven for a mile before the collision. He was rushed to a local hospital where tragically he also died.

As of this posting, it has not been determined if Dejae Pizarro was driving while impaired. Statistically, most wrong-way driving collisions are caused by drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs and some are caused by drivers suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's disease.

However, we offer this advice to all drivers: If you find that you are drunk, wasted or doped up on street drugs or prescription drugs or if you are falling asleep on your feet, do NOT drive. Call a family member or a friend for a ride; or take a taxi or a bus; or stay where you are until you sober up; or crawl home on your hands and knees. It will be better for you and for the world if you do.

Ryan had graduated in 2009 from Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick. He graduated from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy in 2015.

Friends describe Ryan as a good kid who was hard working and well-respected. He had always wanted to be a police officer.

Michael, Patron Saint of the
Police, pray for Ryan and
for those who have lost him.
The Jamestown Police Department is in mourning over the death of their young brother. He was a quiet, good-hearted young man who became a police officer to help people. He will be forever remembered.

Ryan's loved ones are devastated over his tragic death. He was a loving man and was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Ryan is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.

Thank you for your service to the community, Ryan.

Pray for all who go to work and who die because of it.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray that Ryan is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

Pray for Dejae Pizarro. Amen.
