William Solomon - Georgia Ports Authority Officer

Corporal William Solomon died in the line of duty on November 19, 2015, at a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

William Solomon
Corporal Solomon was a member of the Georgia Ports Authority Police Department. He worked at the Garden City Terminal in Savannah.

Prior to this he had worked for Liberty County, Georgia, as a jail officer, a Court House Security Deputy and as a Patrol Deputy.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

On March 2, 2015, William was on duty at the shipping facility. He was directing traffic when he was struck by a man who was driving a tractor trailer.

William was rushed to a local hospital and then to a hospital in Atlanta. He remained in a coma the entire time.

Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on November 19, 2015.

Robert Lee Turner, of Riceboro, Georgia, the driver of the tractor trailer, has been charged with driving while impaired by alcohol. Others charges may be pending.

Robert Lee Turner is innocent unless proven guilty.

However we offer this advice to all drivers: Do NOT go to work drunk if your work involves driving. Additionally, if you are away from your home and find that you are wasted, drunk or doped up on street drugs or prescription drugs or if you are falling asleep on your feet, do NOT drive. Call a family member or a friend for a ride; or take a taxi or a bus; or stay where you are until you sober up; or crawl home on your hands and knees. It will be better for you and for the world if you do.

Regret can last a lifetime.
Michael, Patron Saint of the
Police, pray for William
and for those who have lost him.

The officers of the Georgia Ports Authority Police Department and the officers of the Liberty County Sheriff's Office are in mourning over the death of their brother. Comrades describe William as a diligent and conscientious officer. He always wanted to do the right thing. He will be forever remembered.

William's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was a loving husband and father and was well loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

William is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife, Aida, and his children.

Pray for justice for William.

Pray for all who go to work and who die because of it.

God save us from the drunk and the doped up drivers. They are killing us, Father.

Pray that William is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
