Joshua Phillips - a 19 year old U.S. soldier killed in a training accident

Pvt. Joshua Phillips, age 19, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died in the line of duty on April 16, 2015, at Fort Polk, Louisiana.

Pvt. Phillips was assigned to Alpha Company, 37th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. 

Joshua was participating in a parachute training exercise at Fort Polk when he tragically died.  The circumstances of his death are under investigation. 

Joshua graduated from Legacy High School in Las Vegas in 2014. While at school he was very involved in football and wrestling. 

Joshua joined the Army in August of 2014. He had completed one aspect of his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and the Basic Airborne Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team in February of 2015. 

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good

Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Parachutist Badge.

High school officials describe Joshua as a fearless and competitive leader.

Joshua's military comrades are in mourning over the death of their young brother. He had potential and a bright future. He will be forever remembered. 

Joshua's family members are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Joshua is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including his mother, Jamie; father, Troy; brother, TJ; his wife, Karlee and his stepdaughter, Lyllah.

Pray for all who die by misadventure.  They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye. 

Pray for all who die young.  They barely had a chance to live.

Pray that Joshua is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
