Malaki Mildward - a Seven Year old boy killed by Dogs in College Springs, Iowa

Maliki
Malaki Mildward, age 7, died on January 22, 2015, at his home in College Springs, Iowa.

College Springs is a village in Page County, Iowa with a population of just over 200 people.

Before 5:00 p.m., Malaki was playing outside in the yard with two of his family's dogs. The dogs were mixed breeds with some Pit Bull heritage. They dogs, a male and female, attacked Malaki and bit him to death.

There were no witnesses to the attack and by the time paramedics arrived on the scene the boy was not breathing.

These dogs were put down by authorities. It was reported that another child living in the home had been bitten by these dogs several months prior to this attack, but this is not confirmed.

Large dogs should not be kept in any home in which there are children under the age of 12. Large dogs of any breed can turn on their "family members" for any number of reasons.

This ban should include but should not be limited to these dogs: Pit Bulls and all related Bull Terrier breeds, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Basenjis, Saint Bernards, German
Keep all large dogs
away from your
children
Shepherds, Great Danes, Akitas, Boxers, Huskies, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Chows and Malamutes. There are many more obscure large dog breeds which should also be excluded from homes in which there are children.

All of these dog breeds are potentially dangerous. Some of these dog breeds have repeatedly proven that they can kill people both young and old, including people simply passing by. They have killed grown women walking in the hallways of their apartment buildings; they have killed 40 year old men jogging by on a country road; they have killed toddlers playing on the floor.

Death by dog is not acceptable in a civilized country.

Sadly, we have often noticed that in these tragic deaths caused by dogs that so many people come to the defense of the dog and chalk it all up to an unpredictable and unpleasant accident. The person killed is dismissed as if dogs and their well-being were more important than the lives of human beings.

God save us from this bizarre mindset.

Malaki was a first grader at Garfield Elementary School in Clarinda, Iowa.

He was greatly loved by his family members. They have suffered an unspeakable loss. He will be forever mourned.

Malaki is survived by many loving relatives including his mother, father and sister.

Malaki is playing in the fields of Heaven. God bless this child. Amen.
