Walt Fisher - American Contractor in Afghanistan - shot and killed

Walt Fisher
Walt Fisher died on January 29, 2015, in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Walt was an American contractor working for Praetorian Standard Inc. which is a firm specializing in global security and operational support. The firm is based in Fayetteville, North Carolina. They do contract work for the Defence Department.

Details are sketchy and conflicting but it is reported that two other contractors were also killed and a fourth was injured.

During the early evening of January 29th, Walt and his co-workers were at the North Kabul International Airport complex, in a section reserved for the military, when they were attacked by a gunman. A Taliban fighter had infiltrated the ranks of Afghan forces to stage the attack and wore an Afghan police uniform.

The attacker was killed at the scene.

Walt was born and raised in Fayetteville. He attended Reid Ross Classical School. He worked for a number of years for the Fayetteville and Spring Lake Police Departments. He was honored with at least two Life Saving awards in 1996 and 2001.
Father, place Walt on the Stairway to
Heaven

In the early 2000's, he left the Police and started contracting work.

He was currently living in South Carolina and was married.

Former colleagues describe Walt as a big, friendly guy, and a good guy who did his best. He will be forever remembered.

Many military analysts believe that as the presence of NATO military forces decreases in Afghanistan, the Taliban will increasingly regain their former power and retake the country. The current government is wobbly and their army is weak and unreliable. The country is basically a quagmire of incompetence, corruption and extremism. Therefore, it would be wise for anyone looking to enter into private contracting work in Afghanistan to re-think the issue and to re-evaluate the risks to your life.

Walt's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He will be forever mourned.

Walt is survived by many loving friends and family members including his wife.

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to the conflict in Afghanistan. It is enough.

Pray that Walt is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
