James Caffrey - a victim of hit and run in Shaker Heights, Ohio

James Caffrey, age 51, of Shaker Heights, Ohio, died on January 24, 2015, at a hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.

At about 5:30 p.m., James was jogging on a roadway near his home when he was struck by a gold 1998 Toyota Avalon. The driver sped off, abandoned the car near some woods and fled on foot.  

Prior to this tragic accident, police had tried to pull over this driver on a traffic stop but he sped away.

James was a fifth grade teacher at an elementary school in Shaker Heights. He had left his job at KeyBank Corporation about 7 years ago to teach. 

Colleagues stated that James had a magnetic personality and a winning smile.  He loved his students and was well loved and respected in return. 

James was also an active member of St. Dominic's Church and part of the Project Serve Ministry that took mission trips to El Salvador. He had recently celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary.

James  is survived by many loving friends and family members including his siblings, George, Betsy, Tina, Tim, Stephen and Kate; his wife, Patricia; and his children, James and Julie. 

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye. 

Pray for justice for James. 

God save us from the drunk drivers, the doped up drivers and the speeding drivers. They strike us down on the road and then run away like wolves. Amen.

Pray that James is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
