David Wynn - Royal Canadian Mounted Police - Fatality in Alberta

Constable David Wynn, age 42, died on January 21, 2015, at a hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.

Constable Wynn was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.  He had 6 years of service. 

At 3:00 a.m. on January 16, 2015, Constable Wynn and an unarmed auxiliary constable were investigating reports of a stolen vehicle at a casino in St. Albert, Alberta. 

The officers had reviewed video of the vehicle theft and were leaving the casino when they encountered Shawn Rehn, age 34, and attempted to arrest him.  During the confrontation, Rehn pulled out a concealed handgun and opened fire.  He shot David Wynn in the head and the auxiliary constable in the arm and torso. 

Shawn Rehn then fled the scene and committed suicide in a nearby vacant house. He had an extensive criminal record including 60 offences, 3 jail sentences and a lifetime weapons ban.  He was facing more charges at the time of this tragedy.

David Wynn was rushed to a hospital where he remained until his death on January 21st. He never regained consciousness. 

David joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 2009 after working as a paramedic in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia for more than a decade.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are in mourning over the death of their brother. He will be forever remembered.

David's loved ones are devastated over his tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

David is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife, Shelly; and his three sons, Matthew, Nathan and Alexander.
