James Johnson - a customer at a convenience store - killed in Red Springs, North Carolina

James Johnson, in his 70's, died on December 11, 2014, in Red Springs, North Carolina.

Red Springs is a town in Robeson County. The population was 3,428 at the 2010 census

Sometime after 7:00 p.m., James Johnson was buying lottery tickets inside a local convenience store. Two men wearing hoodies, bandanas and dark clothing entered the store and demanded money. When they didn't immediately get the money they were seeking, they started shooting.

A store clerk, Rodney Maynard, was shot in the shoulder. He was taken to a local hospital with non life threatening wounds.

James Johnson, an innocent customer, was shot in the face and killed outright. He died at the scene.

Rodney Maynard stated that James Johnson had no chance at all and that he was shot while he had his hands in his pockets.

Three men may have been involved in this crime - two who entered the store and a third man who waited outside as a lookout. They are all described as black males in their

James' loved ones are devastated over his senseless and tragic death. He is described as a quiet man and a family man who was very close to this grandchildren. 

James is survived by many loving friends and family members. He will be forever mourned.
