Christopher Kalafut - U.S. Military

Commander Christopher E. Kalafut, age 49, of Oceanside, California, died on October 24, 2014, in Doha, Qatar, at Al Udeid Air Base. 

He was a Reservist and a Commander in the U.S. Navy. He was assigned to Naval Amphibious Liaison Element, Combined Forces Air Component Center, U.S. Central Command.

He was serving as part of the war effort in Afghanistan. 

He was found deceased in his room at the Qatari Air Base.  The cause of his death is under investigation. 

Chris graduated from El Camino High School where he played football and was a band member. His goal was to become an engineer and a pilot and he accomplished both of those goals.

active duty with the Navy, then transitioned to the Naval Reserve where he was actively involved in the Counter-Narcotic Mission throughout Central and South America.

He married his high school sweetheart, Mary, had five children and settled in Georgia.  He had been working as a pilot for Delta Airlines since 2001.  

Christopher's family members are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He is described as intelligent, level-headed and a family man who was devoted to his wife and to his children. He wanted the best for them. He was extremely proud of his wife and children and felt blessed to have them.

He will be forever mourned.

Christopher is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives, including his father, Stephen Kalafut; his wife, Mary; and his five children -  Marrion, Meachan, Christopher, Keegan, and Michael.

Thank you for serving, Christopher. 

Pray for all who die far from their loved ones.  

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to War.  

Pray that Christopher is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
