Charles Strong - U.S. Military Fatality - Afghanistan

Sgt. Charles C. Strong, age 28, of Suffolk, Virginia, died on September 15, 2014, in Herat Province, Afghanistan while conducting combat operations. 

It has been reported that Charles was killed by a man in an Afghan Army uniform.

Charles was assigned to the 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion, Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

He was known as Chuck to his family and friends. 

Charles graduated from Nansemond River High School in Suffolk.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in August of 2003. He was promoted to sergeant in October of 2007.  He joined the Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command in 2013.  

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in lieu of 2nd award, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal in lieu of 3rd award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.

Charles had been previously deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 and to Iraq in 2006.

Charles' military comrades are in mourning over the death of their brother. Military officials describe Charles as a consummate professional and a warrior. He will be forever remembered. 

A fundraising page has been established to aid Charles' wife.   

Charles' family members are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He will be forever mourned.

Charles is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including his wife, Taylor, who is expecting a baby girl in December of 2014.

Thank you for serving, Chuck. 

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Charles. 

Pray for this child who will never meet her father.

Pray that Charles is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
