Jonathon Quarles Jr. - a 7 month old infant killed by a dog in Dayton, Ohio

Jonathon Quarles Jr.
Jonathon Quarles Jr., age 7 months, of Indianapolis, Indiana, died on July 20, 2014, at a house in Dayton, Ohio.

Jonathon was at the home of his step-grandmother and in her care. Sometime after 12 noon, Jonathon was attacked by his step-grandmother's dog.

It has been reported that the woman only took her eyes off the infant for a few seconds when the dog jumped over a fence and attacked the boy.

The dog was taken into custody by local Animal Control Officers.  This dog should be put down immediately.

The dog was a family pet and is described as "pleasant". There is no known motive for the attack.
This is the dog that killed
Jonathon.  It has a huge head
and jaws.  Do you want a dog
like this around your infants?

However, last month, the dog escaped its property and attacked another dog. A complaint was filed against the owner but was postponed.

The dog is an American Staffordshire Terrier which is a sub-species of the Pit Bull breed.

Pit bulls are vicious and unpredictable. They were bred 200 years ago for bull baiting, bear baiting and dog fighting. They were never intended to be family pets. They have proven that they can kill people, both young and old. Many towns, cities and states do not allow pit bulls and related breeds within their jurisdictions including American Staffordshire Terriers.

Any family with an infant in the house or with children less than 10 years old should NOT, under any circumstances, have pit bulls or any large dog breed in the family home. Dogs are animals, people. They are not your children.

And please....no bullshit comments back from readers about how your pit bull is your best friend, and saved your life and licks your baby's face. These dogs are 10 seconds away from savagery. Are you the parent of a dog or are you the parent of a human child? Which is it?

Why does Dayton, Ohio allow these dangerous breeds within their jurisdiction? Where are the legislators at the city, county and state level?

Death by dog is not acceptable in a civilized country.

Jonathon's loved ones, including his step-grandmother, are devastated over his senseless and tragic death. He was only an infant. He will be forever mourned.

Jonathon is survived by many loving friends, family members and well-wishers who weep for him.

Jonathan was an innocent child. He is with the Father, in Heaven.
