Omar Maslat - a Store Clerk murdered in Chicago

Omar Maslat, age 57, of Bridgeview, died on April 1, 2014, at a convenience store in the Chicago Lawn area of Chicago, Illinois.

Omar was a clerk at the Super Sale Food Mart. He was on duty at 6:00 a.m. when Joey Jones, age 31, entered the store. Joey Jones threw coins at Omar Maslat in payment for a T-shirt. He then grabbed a bottle of Gatorade and was going to leave without paying. Another employee told Omar to lock Jones inside the store. In retaliation, Jones then shot Omar Maslat in the chest, fatally wounding him. Jones then fled the scene in a vehicle.

Omar was transported to a local hospital where tragically he was pronounced deceased.

Joey Jones has been charged with first degree murder. Later that day, Joey Jones also shot Brion Payne, age 50, in an unrelated incident.  Brion Payne lived. 

Joey Jones has been charged with attempted murder over that incident. Joey Jones has three prior convictions for drug felonies.

Friends of Omar Maslat stated that he was a good man who only wanted to provide for his kids and to send money to his wife in Jordan.

He is described as a helpful, hardworking and caring man.

Omar was a member of the Islamic faith.

Omar is survived by many loving friends and family members including his wife and children.

Pray for all who go to work and who die there.

God save us from the Lost Ones who bring death to strangers. They are killing us, Father.

Pray that Omar is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
