Danny Ferguson - U.S. Military

Danny Ferguson and Kristen
Sgt. Danny Ferguson, age 39, died on April 2, 2014, while on duty at Fort Hood, Texas.

He was shot by Spc. Ivan Lopez, age 34, who also shot and killed 2 other soldiers and wounded 16 more during an apparent mental meltdown. He was either suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or some other very serious mental disorder. He had exchanged words with several other soldiers, then went and got a gun and started shooting. Ivan Lopez later committed suicide.

Danny Ferguson died a hero. He wedged himself against an unlocked door inside a base building to block Ivan Lopez from gunning down a roomful of his colleagues. Tragically Danny was fatally shot through the door. Many others would have died if Danny Ferguson had not stepped up as he did.

Danny was originally from Mulberry, Florida. In high school, he was into football,

baseball, basketball and track. After graduation he joined the Army in July of 1993.

Danny had 21 years of service in the military. He was an Army transportation supervisor. He had served tours of duty in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan. He has numerous awards and commendations including a Bronze Star, two Kosovo Campaign Medals and five commendation medals.

Danny had gotten engaged on December 25, 2013.

Friends describe him as a wonderful, caring man, who was in love with his fiancée, Kristen Haley, who is also a soldier stationed at Fort Hood. She and Danny shared a home in Killeen, Texas.

He is also described as a good man who was friendly, humorous and fearless. What he did, is exactly what he would always do - step up during an emergency.

Danny's family are devastated over his sudden and senseless death. He will be forever mourned.

Danny is survived by many loving friends and family members including his fiancée, Kristen Haley.

Thank you for serving, Danny.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next.

God save us from the Lost Ones who bring death to strangers. They are killing us, Father.

Pray that Danny is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
