Chris Cortijo - Law Enforcement - California

Police Officer Chris Cortijo, age 51, of North Hollywood, died in the line of duty on April 9, 2014, at a hospital in Los Angeles, California.

Chris was a member of the Los Angeles Police Department. He had 26 years of service.

On April 5, 2014, Officer Cotijo was on motorcycle patrol. He was stopped at a red light at an intersection when he was struck from behind at full speed. He was pinned between two vehicles. He was transported to a local hospital where he remained in a coma until he passed away on April 9, 2014. 

Chris was a member of the DUI Task Force of the Police Department.

Chris was struck by a female driver, Qaneak Shaney Cobb, age 33, of Pacoima, who has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs and possession of cocaine.  She has prior convictions for drug possession and grand theft. She has

misdemeanor prostitution charges dating back to 2004.

Officer Cortijo was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

The Los Angeles Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. He will be missed. 

The family of Chris Cortijo are devastated over his sudden and senseless passing.  He will be forever mourned.

Chris is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his three children.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next.

God save us from the drunk and doped up drivers. They are killing us, Father.

Pray that Chris is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
