Michael Goodwin - Firefighter - Philadelphia

Captain Michael Goodwin, age 53, died in the line of duty on April 6, 2013, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Mike was a member of the Philadelphia Fire Department. He had 29 years of service.

He was on the roof of a burning fabric shop in the Queen Village district when the building collapsed around 6.00 p.m. trapping him inside. He died at the scene of the fire.

His colleagues tried desperately to rescue him. Firefighter Andrew Godlewski, age 28, suffered severely burned hands as he tried to lift Mike from the flames.

Mike will be posthumously promoted to Battalion Chief.

Fire Department officials stated that Mike was a good leader and an all around good guy and a good firefighter.

The Fire Department is mourning his loss.

Friends describe him as a dedicated family man who loved his wife and his kids and grandchildren.

mother, Betty; his siblings, James, Robbie and Debbie; his wife, Kelly; and their children Michael Jr. and Dorothy.
