Eliezer Colon-Claussells and Mayra Ramirez-Barreto - Law Enforcement - Puerto Rico

Correctional Officer Eliezer Colon-Claussells, age 35, and Agent Mayra Ramírez-Barreto, age 52, of the Puerto Rico Department of Justice, died in the line of duty on January 10, 2013. 

They were killed in an automobile crash near Stillwater, Oklahoma, while en route to the Cimmarron Prison Facility, in Cushing, to extradite several prisoners from the facility.

They were driving southbound on Highway 177, when another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction crossed the center line and struck their van head-on shortly after 5:00 am.  One officer died at the scene and the other shortly thereafter.
Eliezer

Police Officials said that they are appalled at this loss. 

Eliezer had 10 years of service. He lived in Salinas, Puerto Rico.

Family members describe him as a wonderful son, husband and father. Friends describe him as an excellent officer and tremendous person. 

Eliezer is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother, Emma Claussells; and his father; his brother and sister; his wife, Sonia Rivera, and their 7 year old son.

Mayra had 30 years of service. She lived in Carolina, Puerto Rico. 

Friends stated that she was devoted to her work and was soon to retire. 

Mayra is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her 80 year old father and two brothers.
